Mentoring can facilitate the progression of the social and academic integration of the undeclared student, and some research shows that students who receive tutoring can improve their grades, motivation, and learning abilities through the social interaction of tutoring sessions (Hartman, 1990). Studies have shown that tutoring can raise average students to the 98th percentile. And for high-achieving students, mentoring has been shown to improve scores at all grade levels. In observational studies, therefore, it is difficult to determine the impacts of tutoring programs simply by looking at students' educational trajectories before and after tutoring.
